AMG PLANT TESTING UPDATE - SEPTEMBER 2026
It’s been a busy few months at AMG Plant Testing, with our engineers continuing to support customers across Northern Ireland, England and the South of Ireland.
As we head into the final quarter of the year, here’s a quick look at what’s been happening across the team.
July & August in Numbers
Here's a snapshot of the first half of the year:
Over 19,000 inspections completed across the UK & Ireland
Continued growth of our lifting equipment supply division, getting certified equipment to customers when and where they need it

July Stats
July was another busy month for the AMG team 💪
✅ 5,480 total inspections
❌ 364 items failed
🔗 515 items of lifting equipment supplied
August Stats
✅ 3,348 items passed inspection
❌ 427 items failed

And September is already shaping up to be another busy month, with plenty of inspections, equipment supply and site visits keeping the team moving as we head towards the final quarter of the year.
Repairs can now be tracked too
We’ve also introduced a new function within our inspection software to record repairs carried out on equipment.
This allows us to build a clearer history for each item, including what repairs were completed and when.
Since introducing the feature, we’ve already recorded 50 repairs.
For customers, it means even greater visibility over the condition and history of their equipment.
Another step towards making lifting equipment management easier.
Meet the engineers behind AMG
A big part of the AMG service is the experience behind every inspection.
Our engineering team includes Gerard, Mihai and Chris, who work with customers across a wide range of industries and sites.
Gerard has been with AMG since 2016 and brings more than 25 years of experience within utilities and overhead line work.
Mihai joined the team in 2025 and has continued developing his lifting equipment knowledge, including completing his LEEA Foundation training.
Chris joined AMG at the beginning of 2026 and has since completed further training including NPORS Telescopic Handler Small Lifting Operations and Plant Inspector training.
Whether they’re carrying out inspections, advising on replacement equipment or helping customers improve the way their lifting gear is managed, our engineers are there to make the process as straightforward as possible.
Cheaper isn't always better...
Especially when you can’t repair it.
During a recent inspection, we came across a 26mm eye self-locking hook with a failed trigger kit. Because the hook could no longer self-lock, it had to be taken out of service.
Normally, this could be a relatively straightforward repair. However, the hook was manufactured by another brand and we were unable to source a replacement trigger kit.
The result? The entire hook had to be replaced.
It’s one of the reasons we choose to supply trusted manufacturers such as William Hackett, where replacement parts are readily available and equipment can often be repaired rather than completely replaced.
When we supply lifting equipment, we’re not only thinking about the purchase price. We also consider ongoing maintenance, spare-part availability and how easily that equipment can be kept safely in service over the long term.
A replacement trigger kit costs considerably less than a new hook.
Sometimes spending a little more on the right equipment at the beginning can save much more further down the line.

Safety Tip
Never lift with a twisted or knotted web sling.
Twisting or knotting a sling can prevent the load from being distributed evenly, reduce its strength and increase the risk of sudden failure under load.
Before every lift, operators should check that the sling is:
✅ Flat and free from twists
✅ Correctly positioned
✅ Free from knots, cuts and visible damage
✅ Suitable for the load being lifted
A simple pre-use check could prevent a serious incident.
